About Tranmere
Tranmere is an eastern suburb of Adelaide within the City of Campbelltown.
The suburb’s name dates back to 1838 when David Wylie named the area after his hometown in Cheshire. A notable precinct called Poets’ Corner lies between Richardson Avenue, Birkinshaw Avenue, Magill Road and Glynburn Road; it features streets named after famous poets such as Emerson, Kings, Dryden, Shakespeare, Milton and Kipling. Poets’ Corner is known for its larger residential blocks and historic homes.
One of the suburb’s landmarks is Tranmere House, a heritagelisted 17room mansion built in 1898 for draper George Hunt.
Another highlight is The Gums Recreational Ground, Tranmere’s largest park, bisected by Shakespeare Avenue. The park showcases majestic gum trees and Third Creek, and includes a playground, shelter sheds, public toilets and a war memorial with a garden of contemplation.
Magill Road and Glynburn Road provide easy road access, and Adelaide Metro buses such as the H33 and H21 connect Tranmere with surrounding suburbs and the city.
